Sectional aquarium installation
The ATL team has successfully accomplished another sectional aquarium installation
Earlier this year we completed a project for the lovely Aquarium Wilhelmshaven in Germany. The city of Wilhelmshaven is located in the Lower Saxony region of Germany and is famous for its naturally deep port and its significant naval presence. Alongside the naval port and museum is the Wilhelmshaven aquarium which attracts many visitors annually. The aquarium originally opened to the public way back in 1927 and since that time has undergone various phases of refurbishment the last major phase completing before re opening to the public in 2002.
The aquarium completed its latest phase of upgrade with the addition of some stunning new marine aquarium exhibits. Following a tendering process ATL were appointed to the project alongside German filtration specialist Aqua Sander Gmbh
Wilhelmshaven aquarium is located on the Southern promenade of the defensive dyke which protects the area from the ravages of the North sea. The aquarium building is designed with anti flood features and incorporates flood proof doors to provide additional protection from the sea. These heavy duty bulkhead doors are the only point of goods delivery and access into the ground floor aquarium displays area.
Access presented a challenge as all but one of the new tanks needed to be designed and sectionally constructed to enable them to fit through the available access door. As is typical of tricky aquarium installation projects, our team approached the project with professionalism and complete flexibility enabling them to expertly install the tank sections with only minimal clearance.
This meant we could maximise the size of every tank section, completing a larger part of the works during the factory prefabrication stage of construction.
This kept site work disruption and cost to a minimum. The efforts of our team should be applauded as we made a seemingly impossible task happen.
Once in position our team continued with the aquarium assembly process including waterproofing, viewing panel installation and completing the tank decoration. All of these tasks were made even more difficult due to the minimal overhead clearance within the exhibition area. However when complete our team left a series of stunning new aquarium tanks in their wake.
ATL are widely recognised as the leaders in aquarium technology and our teams have once again demonstrated why we can proudly tag our achievements as such.
We look forward to working alongside the local team again and wish their new exhibition all the future success it deserves. More details about the aquarium can be viewed here
