Cool seas at the Deep

ATL coral tank

ATL’s 9m sectional live coral exhibit at the Deep Hull

Another of our recent projects was cool seas at the Deep in Hull

The Deep aquarium in Kingston upon Hull opened as a millennium funded project in 2002. ATL has a long association with the Deep having provided lots of the original displays for the aquarium, many of which are still on show today. Since that time we have also been proud to have provided some of the new exhibits for the aquarium, recently completing a sectional 9m long coral tank which was built in 9 individual prefabricated pieces!

Our most recent involvement with the Deep aquarium saw us providing a large rock pool feature display which forms the centre point of the cool seas at the deep exhibition.

This project involved us designing, building and installing a large sectional display tank complete with various acrylic viewing panels offering differing views. The requirement was for the tank to be themed based on a ‘Flambourough Head’ style rock reference researched and provided by the on site team.

Installations at the Deep are always a challenge due to the limited access via ramps to final location. At 7000mm x 2500mm x 2500mm high this tank was no exception and therefore the tank was designed to be built in sections and assembled in situ.

With a specialist flooring installation planned our team of technicians did an amazing job and quickly assembled the tank before installing and sealing the windows.

Let the theming begin

Realistic rockwork theming was created to seamlessly envelop the tank creating a cave structure viewing area to watch the rock pool surge entering the adjacent tank.

On one side of our tank is a large wave wall projection which in combination with our tanks surge mechanism creates an awesome atmosphere. The other side of the gallery leads in from the new jelly room all part of the cool seas at the Deep exhibition.

ATL are proud to have partnered with the Deep on this next generation display concept. More details can be found by clicking here
