ATL have designed and installed many swimming pool windows in glass or acrylic

For over 30 years architects, pool designers and contractors have relied on us to design, supply and install underwater viewing panels into their luxury swimming pools and spas. Our experience of specialist underwater glazing is more normally associated with deep aquarium construction. This unrivalled experience has enabled ATL to position itself as the go to, industry trusted installer of underwater viewing windows. The demand for incorporating underwater viewing panels into swimming pools and spas has grown dramatically over recent years with more and more ambitious projects now being conceived. ATL are able to design swimming pool windows in flat glass or acrylic or curved or hemispherical shapes in acrylic.

ATL glass swimming pool viewing panel

Whilst theres been a recent trend towards using acrylic for submerged viewing panels there are also many examples where glass viewing panels are still preferred by some designers. Ultimately its really down to personal choice. For every designer wanting acrylic theres another specifying a glass product. Understandably an acrylic producer will only ever specify acrylic products and a glass producer their glass products but thats where ATL differs. We are equally comfortable designing and correctly specifying either medium in submerged scenarios. Low iron glass is increasingly popular option for some designers as it provides improved transparency and less of the ‘green tinge’ typically associated with multi layer laminated float glass.

When considering swimming pool windows in glass or acrylic, ATL is the genuine ‘one stop shop’ from initial design including rebate support detailing, manufacture, installation and sealing. Traditionally pool viewing panels are installed in vertical attitude either as a 4 edge supported fully submerged view or a 3 edge supported view such as an infinity edge panels. 3 edge supported panels are used extensively to create seemingly endless pool views.

Horizontally installed windows are becoming popular. Recently our team installed a large acrylic viewing panel into the pool base of a London penthouse. This required a crane to lift the panel from the transport up onto roof level before lowering it into the rebate, ready for our technicians to seal.

Craning ATL’s acrylic viewing panel into the London penthouse pool

ATL have just completed the design, supply and installation of a floor to ceiling underwater swimming pool window to a prestigious basement development in London.

The acrylic window which had to be craned over a listed building, down through three floors and then transported upright into the swimming pool measured 3.5m x 3.0m x 140mm and weighed in the order of 1700kg. The panel was specially commissioned and manufactured in Europe in 13 weeks and shipped by road to ATL’s factory for final inspection and edge preparation following which it was transported to site, lifted into position, installed and sealed in just 4 days.

For many years ATL has been highly regarded as a specialist designer and installer of deep water glazing for commercial aquariums. ATL has naturally progressed to become a major provider in the underwater windows for swimming pools market. ATL design, specify, install and seal underwater windows for every type of submerged application, including of course swimming pools. Underwater windows for swimming pools are now the ‘must have’ for any new swimming pool project. Adventurous architects, interior designers and structural engineers are coming to ATL and asking us for larger than ever underwater windows for swimming pools. ATL works with a number of the worlds major acrylic producers to provide the highest quality flat or thermoformed acrylic viewing panels to suit virtually any size and shape of pool or budget.

ATL’s latest swimming pool project involves the design and installation of a large cast acrylic viewing panel for a multi million pound residential development in London. The viewing panel is being installed in a basement swimming pool structure by ATL’s installation technicians. The ATL acrylic underwater window is 140mm thick and weighs around 1750kg.

In addition to large acrylic viewing windows, ATL design and manufacture large underwater windows for swimming pools in standard or low iron heat soak toughened and laminated glass.

Aquarium Technology Ltd design and install glass swimming pool windows for use as submerged viewing panels.

Glass swimming pool window size and shape is mostly a matter of personal choice but as a rule pool designers want the largest uninterrupted panes possible. To meet this demand ATL has been actively encouraging producers to maximise glass processing limits.

Increasingly popular are large glass swimming pool windows which divide the space between underground zones such as games rooms from the pool. Submerged glass swimming pool windows provide through views into the swimming pool and beyond. Glass viewing panels not only add interest and fun but also provide an important source of dappled natural light into otherwise dark areas.

ATL’s larger glass swimming pool windows are produced from multiple leaves of heat soak toughened and laminated glass leaves. Our heaviest panel to date was 5 x 19mm thick leaves of low iron glass. This glass swimming pool window alone weighed over 1100kg. The glass leaves are assembled in a clean room environment to ensure the highest possible visual quality is achieved. ATL has its own dedicated glass inspection team. This team assists the producers to select and assemble only the best glass leaves to ensure the highest possible quality is achieved. This team is mainly used for the high end modern art market products where only the highest quality is accepted.

ATL not only supplies glass viewing panels to the UK pool market. Overseas sales are booming with projects in the Middle East and Mediterranean on the increase. ATL work closely with architects and interior designers and prime contractors to achieve the highest visual expectations.

From a humble garden pond viewing panel used to keep an eye on the pet goldfish up to the more adventurist circular koi pond windows, ATL can provide a quality solution to suit.
