ATL SEALIFE tank refurbishment

Following the successful project at Hunstanton Sea Life Centre, ATL has completed a similar work scope of aquarium refurbishment at the much larger centre on Blackpool’s famous Golden Mile. Built in 1990 the centre’s Ocean Display featured what was then the largest all glass aquarium window in Europe which consisted of 6 large armoured laminated panels supported on 5 armoured laminated glass mullions.

Time having taken its toll on the display the client, Merlin Entertainments, decided to completely refurbish the viewing windows, acrylic tunnel and acrylic observatory. Having worked on the original build, ATL Sealife tank refurbishment team were entrusted to remove the glass from the tank and replace it with new panels of more modern structure. Logistically this is a very demanding operation with the only suitable access for the 4.5 tonnes of glass being via an aperture cut in a first floor wall over the busy Blackpool Promenade!

With the replacement of the glass, and the high performance seals in the walk through tunnel and observatory the entire display should be fit for its next 22 years’ worth of visitors to this classic English resort attraction.
